Rain yesterday. Indian Summer ending.

Rain yesterday and last night, some thunder too. The beginning of the end of our Indian Summer.

Monday began clear but clouds rapidly overspread the region ahead of another cold front/low pressure system. As the storms advanced east towards the Duluth area, several began producing hail and severe wind gusts to 70 mph. This prompted the Storm Prediction Center to issue Severe Thunderstorm Watch (#687) for the region, from northwestern Wisconsin and southeastern Minnesota down into north-central Iowa. The main threats were hail up to 1" and winds up to 70 mph, an isolated tornado was also possible. As usual this summer, very little interesting happened in the Northland. Damaging winds were reported back into Minnesota, but those are the only storm reports in the region.

The cold front has continued to slowly moved east of the Upper Midwest. This will usher in a change, our Indian Summer will begin to end with cooler temps the rest of this week. Some frost is even possible in northern Minnesota overnight tonight. Next week will also bring temperatures closer to the freezing point.
