After a beautiful day yesterday, some rain & storms last night!

Yesterday saw a high temp of 83.6, mostly sunny with a light east breeze. The barometer was bouncing between 29.94 and 29.81, with a general trend of dropping.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch (# 656) was posted at 18:20 for NE MN & NW WI. Sprinkles began at 21:30 but the line of storms was back in MN, draped across the Arrowhead of MN down past Duluth, moving east.

By 23:00 the storms were very close -- the heaviest rain peaked at 23:20 with a rainfall rate of 6.55" per hour, unfortunately, that downpour was very brief.

The heaviest rain ended by 1:00, but continued on/off until 5:30. My rainfall total was 0.82", low compared to the other rainfall totals in the area. Brimson, MN was the highest with 2"!!

With the addition of last night's rain, my yearly total is now 9.52", we should have around 18.72" by this date... that's about 51 % of normal!

For August this brings the monthly total to 2", the normal up to this date should be around 3.77"... that's about 53 % of normal!!

For storm reports, the nearest were: Gogebic County, MI with nickel-sized hail, Medford, WI with trees & powerlines down from high winds, and baseball-sized hail in Aitkin County, MN.
